Horn is a surprising hardy material being the precursor to modern plastics it can be dropped and knocked around without damage.
In the 19th century it was commonly used for hair combs, belt buckles, brooches etc.
Help on Size / Gauge
With Plugs and Tunnels, the Size / Gauge is measured across the Wearable Surface, between points A and B in the illustration and not from the flares, which tend to be approximately 1.5mm larger than the Wearable Surface.
With other products, the Size / Gauge is measured across the part of the earring which is inserted into the ear lobe.

Help on Wearable Surface
For Plugs and Tunnels, the Wearable Surface is measured at the part of the earring which comes into contact with your ear lobe, shown as the shaded area (W) in the illustration.
For "Average Ears" the Wearable Surface is 8mm wide but we can also produce earrings in two smaller ("Skinny" and "Extra Skinny") and two larger ("Thicker" and "Big Lobes") Wearable Surface widths.

Double Flare
The Double Flare style has a flare on each side. The Flares are typically around 1.5mm larger than the Wearable Surface. Please Remember - all our products are handmade, so all measurements are approximate.
Single Flare
The Single Flare style has a flare on one side and is flat on the other. The flat side has an o-ring which sits inside a groove to ensure a great fit. The Flare is typically around 1.5mm larger than the Wearable Surface. Please Remember - all our products are handmade, so all measurements are approximate.
Top Hat
The Top Hat style has a slightly larger rounded edge on one side and is flat on the other. The flat side has an o-ring which sits inside a groove to ensure a great fit. The rounded edge is typically around 1.5mm larger than the Wearable Surface. Please Remember - all our products are handmade, so all measurements are approximate.
Flat Flare
The Flat Flare style has a slightly larger rounded edge on both sides. The rounded edges are typically around 1.5mm larger than the Wearable Surface. Please Remember - all our products are handmade, so all measurements are approximate.
Straight with O-Rings
The Straight with O-Rings style is flat on both sides with o-ring's on each side which sit inside grooves to ensure a great fit.
Straight without O-Rings
The Straight without O-Rings style is flat on both sides and has no o-ring's.

Overall Diameter is the width of the item between its widest points, i.e. between points A and B in the illustration.
